Jeff Scott Soto was fired from Journey. He didn't walk away. He loved that gig and busted his ass to excel at it. He was lied to, and stabbed in the back. Two men, Jon Cain and Neal Schon were upset about Jeff's stage presence, and they alone made the change. Deen Castronovo and Ross Valory were not included in this. This is all about two assholes, whose egos were bruised because the fans affection for Jeff was greater than they would have imagined.
Jeff is doing "okay" or as okay as one could do under the circumstances. He probably won't be on a message board soon, but I can still keep you fans posted on things.
I am trying to piece together a timeline of the recent turn of events. Just doing this makes me sickened.
Tomorrow: Who told Jeff first, that he was no longer in the band. Go ahead and guess.

From all accounts, Jeff's stage presence was amazing. Was Neal worried about being upstaged? You gotta be kidding me... Cain, doesn't do ANYTHING on stage, so he couldn't have been worried about being upstaged.
Everything I've heard was that Cain wasn't that happy with the direction that Jeff's pipes would lead them. Well, unless you're sure, don't make him the new permanent lead singer. Get through the tour, THEN hash it out.
Granted, I was not a big fan of Jeff singing old Journey stuff. HOWEVER, it did have great possibilities for the future. A lot of the hard cores seemed psyched about it, they got great reviews... AND NOW this. I've played in some f'd up bands in my time, but these guys take the cake.

This is exactly what I've been thinking...Jeff's stage presence was a threat to Schon; I wasn't sure about Cain, because he's never been in the spotlight as much as Schon. But to get so excited over an old song being played on a TV show...gag me.

well Augeri's stage presence was really laid back and a little too "not take charge" (No offense, everyone that knows me knows I'm an Augeri fan) but Perry AND Jeff had that "I'm the front man, I'm going to WORK the crowd". That's how it SHOULD BE.

Ummm ... I don't think anyone on here thinks that Deano is an employee. That said, he has some pretty damn good inside information and, from what I've seen in the past, has certainly earned his credibility.
I find irony that Schon wants to stay with the classics as he always kind of seemed to dislike them for being too pop and not rock enough. Well, he was given the opportunity to work with someone in JSS who has earned his reputation of being a top notch rock singer and his ego couldn't handle it so out goes JSS.
For the record, I am not now, nor have I ever been, a Journey fan. I also don't have a particular attachment to JSS as I've never seen or heard him perform (but I have certainly heard about his talent and personality). I just find all of the crap that the band has done over the last 12 - 18 months fascinating.
Watching the Titanic sink must have been eerily similar to watching Journey self destruct.

Ross Valory was on vacation and didn't even know what had happened until he returned, and he, Ross Valory, was the ONLY member to call Jeff back. Neal was too much of a pussy to to even tell Jeff what was happening. They still haven't "told him" why he was let go, but it sure as Hell isn't what the fucking "official statement" suggests it is. Neal had told Jeff a few times, that he was too arrogant and that "this isn't Van Halen." There's your fuckin facts.

These guys ( Schon and Cain)live in a different universe and don't have a clue about regular people or how to treat them. Jeff has been great with the fans and he has a great future in front of him. Don't know what to say about Journey doesn't sound too good to me. If you look at the Frointers site they have 3 dates listed yet if you go to those venues there is nothing mentioned about Frontiers playing. I know for a fact that Jeff had backstage passes for the Frontiers guys last year and that is the first time they met Neal and JSS.
Deano showed in the "Tapegate" scandal that he has the goods, so I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. It sounds like he is very well-connected.
Bands, I suppose, when all is said and done, are about entertainment, and in service of that, have the right to their own personnel decisions.
On the other hand, bands cannot succeed in our culture without the fans paying their salaries, if you will - both monetarily and in terms of all the intangibles that go along with supporting a band through fan practices. From this point of view, the fans, and Deano in particular, are quite justified in carrying on their own analysis and protest, because what has happened in Journey and what continues to happen is changing fans' evaluations of the quality of this band and their music.
This may be a minority of Journey fan voices, but it is an influential minority. Just look at the "Tapegate" fiasco. Without the internet, that would never have proceeded as it did.
So -- keep it up, Deano...
I knew Jeff back in L'Amour when different "Steve" was in the mix, hauling their stuff around. Thus, been in awe of Jeff damn near forever.
Went to the Soul Sirkus show in Vegas in 2005 when Neal was visibly pissed off at JSS. Neal wouldn't even look at him, and the glances he did make were of the "fuck you asshole" kind.
At the end of the show all the guys come to the front of the stage to take a bow, Jeff comes up between Virgil and Neal, and puts his arms around and on the shoulders of both guys, and Neal immediately yanks Jeff's arm off his shoulder and give's his that "fuck you asshole, dont try that shit" look straight at Jeff. You could just feel the tension.
Next day they cancel Mark & Brain interview, Ventura Show (sort of a homecomming for Jeff) and BOOM.
Because of that event, I was truly surprised that Jeff got the gig in the first place. Talent and pipes = Jeff was a "no brainer" for the job. Not to mentioned he could jump into the job immediately, and perfectly regarding the fan's expectations.
I always wondered if the SoulSirkus demise was somewhat tied to JSS and Neil's relationship, as much as it being a financial clusterfuck for Neil.
Anyway, not sure if those two were ever "brothers" after the recording of SS.

I know you had the inside info then and I'm sure you do now, but why would the guys want to hang w/ you after you exposed them with Augeri? I know Jeff would probably be cool w/ you because you did not expose him and he was not involved, but weren't the rest of them pissed at you? Or maybe at the time they were happy because it let them dump SA and pick up JSS only to screw him later. How do you keep getting the inside info? I think at this point everyone does believe you and the fans are disgusted with Journey, myself included, but I just want to know how you always get the inside scoop. Perry begged them not to go on using the Journey name, he wanted that memory of 1983 to live in the minds of everyone..Now this new shit chapter. Perry's ego was bigger than anyones, but he had the legacy to back him up, Jeff has the talent level, but not enough legacy to stand up to Neal. I still don't get why. Neal has played with plenty of "star" singers who command alot of stage presence. Sammy Hagar, Paul Rogers, Steve Perry, etc. From all reports last tour was the first time he was happy in a long time.

I may be wrong, but after SS I really thought Neal and Jeff were on the same page with good "chemistry" in the writing department between them. Maybe the Frig wasn't liking what he was hearing or wasn't as included in the writing as much as he would like.

Journey made a mistake in announcing JSS as the new lead singer, he was not a good fit. The people that like his music were just so eager to have him in their favorite band and he was a good man for stepping in on tour, hopefully he was paid well.

Seeing all of this unfold makes me believe that Steve Perry was not the bad guy that BTM painted him to be. Seems like Neal and Jonathan will walk over anyone to get what they want...
On the other hand, I see that everyone believes that Perry coming back would never happen. My question is this: Why would the band make such an announcement if they were taking a hiatus for the rest of the year? I mean, we already knew (or assumed) that they would be taking the rest of '07 to write and maybe record the new album with JSS...why cause waves unless there is a possibility of a Perry comeback? I can NOT (and refuse) to believe that they would seriously consider a no-name Perry wannabe. If they do, they will be reduced to nothing more than a tribute band of their own material; and I can go to my local club to see that for a $2.00 cover charge....
